Seven swimmers stand at the water’s edge. The sun sets over a remote coastline to the left; orange granite boulders shape the bay to the right. Looking ahead, the wind-chopped Tasman Sea surges toward the shore. Welcome to Ocean Made’s Immersive Retreat.

Over the last weekend of April 2026, brought together by a shared love for ocean swimming and mindful movement, swimmers from across Australia came together in Bicheno, Tasmania, for a weekend of deep connection and presence.

Our Ocean Made retreats are designed to create space to slow down and return to the present moment. Through guided ocean swims and swim-specific yoga in pristine natural surroundings, we realign with natural rhythms of movement, cultivating a more engaged and responsive way of interacting with the environment.

Over the course of three days, the ocean became our guide, with the flow of each day shaped by its rhythm.

Mornings began in our outdoor studio space on the sweeping lawn at Harvey’s Farm, greeting the sun as it rose over the ocean. Moving together with shared intention, we created space in both mind and body through a mindful connection to breath.

Translating the yoga practice into the water, each swim became a moving meditation, offering an opportunity to notice subtle shifts – physically and mentally – carried forward from the yoga flows.

All weekend, Tasmania’s east coast delivered idyllic conditions. Walking onto the beach at Freycinet National Park for our first swim, the group was buzzing. Blue skies accentuated the pink granite tones of The Hazards mountain range, mirrored perfectly in the glassy waters of Coles Bay.

Soaking in the beauty above and below the surface, the reality of 16-degree water slowly began to seep in after 3km. It was time to head back to shore. And cue the Red EVO Pro Changing Robe – its cosy sherpa fleece lining providing comforting warmth after the chilly water. Bundled up warm and dry, conversations flowed over a picnic lunch as swimmers exchanged wildlife sightings, reflections, and newfound sensations from the water.

On day two, both morning and afternoon swims in Bicheno were aquarium-clear, treating the group to encounters with blue-eye trevalla and smooth stingrays. After navigating a pulse of swell around one headland, smiling faces popped up in excitement:

“Did you feel the beat of that swell?”

“I was just breathing and it took me…”

Deep shifts were beginning to take root. The joy, confidence, and connection growing within the group was palpable.

Moving between sunrise yoga, ocean swims, coastal walks, and recovery rituals at our local wellness centre, Red’s EVO Pro Changing Robe quickly became the outfit of choice for the weekend – keeping everyone warm, dry, and fully immersed in the experience.

The weekend came full circle as we joined the Devil of a Swim race – an iconic celebration of Tasmania’s wild ocean swimming culture. Leaving Bicheno, there was a clear sense that something had shifted, with newfound confidence and a shared goal of returning next year to take on the full 5km Devil of a Swim together.
