Meet Amy Ennion: Red Equipment's newest open water swimming Ambassador
Meet Amy Ennion: A swimmer for over 30 years, a water polo player for nearly 20, an open water swimmer and coach for 10 years, an ultra marathon swimmer and world record holder for the past six; and now a Red Equipment open water swimming Ambassador!
Amy's Story
My name is Amy, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Red Equipment ambassador team this year. I describe myself now as an ultra marathon open water swimmer, a coach, and a body positivity advocate. My open water swimming journey started with a 3.8km (which felt like such a long way at the time!), followed swiftly by a 5km, then a 10km.
After that 10km—a marathon distance in swimming—I was hooked. The challenge, the endurance, the open water—it all called to me. I decided to set my sights on the English Channel. Known as the Everest of open water swimming, it took me a couple of years to train up for. Completing Windermere in the Lake District first, to practice about 50% of the distance, then Jersey to France for about 65% of the distance, and finally completing the English Channel in 2021!
Finishing the English Channel was one of the proudest moments of my life, but I knew I wasn’t done there. In 2023, I took on my biggest challenge yet: a solo swim of Lake Geneva. At 70km—double the English Channel—it was an immense feat. Not only did I complete it, but I also became at the time the fastest Brit overall (men’s and women’s) and the youngest ever soloist.
I love exploring with my swimming—finding new routes, uncharted waters, and unswum channels. I hold both ratified pioneer records (Guernsey to France) and unratified (round-Mersea Island), always accompanied by my wonderful partner, Will.
I was beyond excited when Red reached out to me in late 2024 to come on board as an ambassador. The Red Foundation aligns so closely with what I aim to do with my platform and my coaching: striving to show that there is a place in the water for everyone. Everyone, no matter how they get to the water, deserves to be there. They deserve access, they deserve equipment that fits and is suitable, they deserve respect and they deserve to feel comfortable.

I’m so proud to be working with a brand that echoes and embodies these values, and also works to improve access, conservation, inclusivity and diversity. I can’t wait to see what we can achieve this year!
