Last summer, we invited our global SUP community to create a unique design for our award-winning Ride 10’6” SUP. Inspired by the theme “The Worlds Waterways” and working alongside the US based creative design platform, Spoonflower and their vast artist community, the global competition challenged a wide range of paddlers and creatives to design a special repeater pattern that would be applied to our first ever limited-edition Red Paddle Co SUP.
Spoonflower are well known for their home décor and textile repeater graphic designs with a community which has grown to over 4.5 million creatives who use the online marketplace to share and express their personal style and creative graphics. We discussed our ideas with the Spoonflower team quite early on to make it as easy as possible for people to enter and take part. The team regularly run weekly design challenges and are well versed in creating graphics for a variety of different mediums, so we welcomed their know-how on how to best run the challenge online. It was also great to connect with an already engaged community of design specialists and creatives so we could expand the campaign on a wider scale.
The Worlds Waterways theme was chosen to celebrate the variety of waterways across the globe we have the pleasure and privilege to paddle on. We asked our applicants to consider the importance of preserving the oceans, coastlines, marine life and ecosystems as well as considering the important work of our charity partner Love the Oceans.
We were overwhelmed by the amazing variety of entries, and it wasn’t an easy decision to pick the winning design which was selected from hundreds of entries from around the world.
You can see we had a diverse collection of entries to choose from …
The winning design was chosen by a panel of judges for its intricacy but adaptable design. They loved that it encapsulated the overall theme of the brief but also resonated closely with our charity partner Love the Oceans. It was their vital conservation work that inspired the winning design, “All is Water, Water is All” by freelance illustrator, Circe Oropeza.
Circe, from Hidalgo, Mexico used monochrome line artwork of sea life and ecosystems using the simple texture of water and waves. The design has been subtly applied to the deck pad on top of the board and transforms the underside of the paddle board while preserving the iconic Red square logo that our brand is so well known for.

We have supported the Love the Oceans charity for several years and they have been using our paddle boards to continue their community work and marine research in Mozambique. The team use the boards as free-diving platforms for discovering new coral reef systems as well to record important acoustic data of Whales and marine life which would otherwise be deterred from noisy engine powered watercrafts.
We have already sent four of the Limited-Edition boards to add to their other Red boards previously donated. They will also receive 10% of profits from the sales of the new boards and we hope this will make a real impact to their funding and help Francesca and the team continue their fantastic work protecting and preserving the marine ecosystems and the local communities in Mozambique.
